My name is Jo Layne Cafasso and I will be teaching 1st Grade at CCS again this year! It is a fantastic school and I am excited to begin another year here.
A little about me...I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania...Go Steelers! I began my working career as a secretary and worked in downtown Pittsburgh for many years. I come from a family of teachers, and after having my children - TWIN girls! - I felt the call to attend college (at 28 years old!) and get my teaching degree. I taught for 5 years in a Christian school in Pennsylvania, coincidentally called Wilson Christian Academy. We then moved to Fayetteville, NC and I taught there in public school for 8 years. Another move to Oxford, NC afforded me the opportunity to work in a private academy for 6 years and another stint in public school for 2 more years. My daughters' families both moved to the Wilson area during this time and have given me the most beautiful, brilliant grandchildren you've ever seen...so, we HAD to move again, to Wilson, to be near my babies! The first year here, I taught in Wilson Public Schools. However, I felt the need to "return to my roots", I have come full circle to Christian schooling once more.
I am an artistic person and love to create things by sewing, doing beadwork, drawing, painting, crafts, and my favorite (silk) floral arranging. I also like to relax by gardening and working in my yard. I like to read and am a history buff and have attended many Colonial, Medieval and Civil War reenactments. Our vacations are to places like Gettysburg and Lancaster and state capitals as opposed to the beach or mountains, lol!
We live in a big, old house on 1.35 acres in the country. I have one little dog, Finnegan, who is a Jack Russell terrier. He lives inside with us. We also have about 14 feral, outside cats that have adopted US. It is so fun to come home at the end of a long day and have all of them come running to greet me! (Actually, they are hungry and know I am the lady that feeds them!)
We also have 8 chickens and 1 HUGE rooster! Quite the farm at the Cafasso household!
I look forward to teaching your precious children this year!
