Community Christian stayed unbeaten through four Mid-Atlantic Christian Athletic Association 2-A South Region girls soccer matches with an 8-3 conquest of visiting Suffolk Christian of Virginia on Tuesday.
The Cyclones, now 6-2 overall, got a pair of goals from Abril Ventura and one by Ava Dunn in contructing an early 3-0 lead but Suffolk responded to cut it to 3-2 by halftime.
“I challenged the girls at halftime to bring more intensity to the second half,” CCS head coach Carl Bradshaw said. “The first half was full of possessions where we kept the ball on our feet for too long. We were missing the easy passes, and we were making a good first pass, but after the first pass, the ball was stopping. I told the girls to use all of their options, and to pick up their pace.
“The girls took the challenge, and they responded.”
Aspen Evans, who had a first-half assist, scored on pass from Barrett Godwin two minutes into the second half before Godwin found Haley Brown for a goal that put CCS up 5-2 just two minutes later.
Godwin scored an unassisted goal and Dunn got her second goal off a pass from Taylor Ricks in the 55thminute. After Suffolk scored again in the 63rd minute, Brown, who had an assist on Ventura’s first goal, scored again off a pass from Autumn Bradshaw.
The Cyclones are scheduled to play Bethel Christian on Thursday in Newport News, Virginia, weather permitting.
