GOLDSBORO — The Community Christian School junior varsity girls basketball team claimed the 2A state title on Saturday with a 24-17 win over Trinity Christian.
“I was very excited for the girls as they have had a great season, and they were able to finish on top,” CCS head coach Carl Bradshaw said.
The Cyclones’ coach credited his team’s defensive effort to the win, as he noted they held Trinity Christian’s top-three scorers to 11 points.
“Our defensive pressure was a major problem all game, and the girls really bought into the game plan,” Bradshaw said.
Ava Dunn led CCS with nine points behind three 3-pointers, while Autumn Bradshaw scored seven points and dished out a pair of assists, and Claire Carter led the team in both rebounds and steals with five each.
With the title win, the Cyclones closed out the season at 15-6 overall.
