Community Christian jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter of Friday’s eight-player football home game and held off Pungo Christian for a 22-14 victory.
Freshman quarterback Jack Beamon ran for one touchdown, passed for another and caught a TD pass from Bailey Bunn as the Cyclones evened their record at 2-2. It was the first loss in three games for the Raiders.
Beamon reeled in a 40-yard scoring pass from Bunn and scored on the ground, part of a 28-yard rushing night. He was 5-of-11 passing for 57 yards, including a 19-yard TD pass to Connor Ferguson, with one interception. But Beamon got that pick back when he was on the defensive side by intercepting a Raiders pass and returning it 13 yards.
Senior Matthew Jackson caught three passes for 35 yards for CCS while sophomore Stephen Edwards ran for 73 yards on 13 carries. Edward and Jackson each had six tackles to lead the defense while Bunn made five stops.
The Cyclones, who are playing as an independent team in eight-player football only, will visit Northeast Academy on Friday, Sept. 15, in a rematch of the week 2 game at CCS, which they won 22-20.
