HOBGOOD — Community Christian slipped to 1-2 with a 48-14 eight-player football loss Friday at Hobgood Charter.
The Cyclones, playing as an independent in football, were coming off a 22-20 win over Northeast Academy at CCS but ran into a buzzsaw in the Raiders (2-0). CCS ran for 182 yards, led by senior Tavares Williams’ 75 yards on 10 carries, but struggled in the passing game. Freshman 6-foot-7 quarterback Jack Beamon was just 5-of-24 passing for just 36 yards while being picked off twice.
However, Beamon was the second-leading CCS rusher behind Williams with 53 yards on a team-high 14 carries. Freshman Caleb Taylor, who had 31 yards on five carries, and Williams ran for touchdowns. Senior Matthew Jackson led the Cyclones with three catches for 15 years while ringing up seven tackles, tying him with Taylor for the team high.
Beamon ran in a two-point conversion.
The Cyclones are back home Friday against Pungo Christian, also 2-0.
