Community Christian came up just short in an epic five-set match Tuesday, Aug. 22, against Greenville Christian at the Peace Church gym.
The Cyclones, now 2-1, lost the first set 25-22 before rallying to win the next two games, 25-13, 25-20. However, Greenville Christian pulled out a 25-23 squeaker to force a decisive fifth set, winning that 15-13.
“I was really proud of the girls for fighting hard and never giving up,” said CCS head coach Kelly Bradshaw, who praised senior libero Faith Jones for leading the defense.
Fellow senior Taylor Ricks led the Cyclones at the net with six kills while Gracie Beamond totaled four kills. Claire Carter paced CCS at the service line with 13 points, including an ace, to go with two kills while Autumn Bradshaw served up 12 points with four aces. Libby Bass crafted 11 service points with three aces. Katie Mangum contributed four points with an ace and a kill while Jones supplied two kills and a pair of points.
The Cyclones will host New Bern Christian on Thursday.
