A young Community Christian School boys soccer team stumbled against an experienced Southside Christian squad in its season opener on Thursday, falling 6-2. 

Ethan Barnes and Eli Nichols each scored for the Cyclones, with Asher Murphy and Ayden Cox both coming up with assists. Josh Varnell made nine saves in goal, and assistant coach Carl Bradshaw noted that Sammy Dean and Tuck Webb played “outstanding defense against an eight-grade heavy Southside team.” 

CCS will host Greenville Christian on Tuesday, Aug. 22.
