Visiting New Life Academy of Elizabeth City scored five runs in the top of the first inning and Community Christian never caught up Wednesday as the Cyclones suffered their first varsity baseball loss of the season 6-4.
Community Christian (3-1) answered with two runs each in the bottom of the first and second innings but that was it for the offense. The Cyclones committed more errors (5) than they had hits (4) while New Life only managed three hits off three CCS pitchers. Eighth grader Jack Beamon took the loss after giving up all five runs, none earned, in the first without allowing a hit.
Freshman Tyler Spivey was 3 for 3 with an RBI to lead the Cyclones while Evan Barnhill singled in two at-bats for the other CCS hit.
The Cyclones are set to visit Faith Christian in Goldsboro on Friday.
