Cyclones tame Mustangs for 2-0 start

Behind a three-goal game from Ava Dunn, the Community Christian girls soccer team improved to 2-0 on the young season Tuesday night with a victory over visiting Mid Atlantic Christian Athletic Association foe New Bern Christian.

The Cyclones play in the MACAA’s North Region, and the Mustangs play in the south, so the game doesn’t count towards CCS’ conference record.

In addition to Dunn’s three tallies, Abigail Jackson notched a goal and an assist, Tate Misback scored and Aspen Evans and Abril Ventura grabbed two helpers apiece.

The Mustangs’ lone goal came on a direct kick from 25 yards out by Lily Davis, who CCS head coach Carl Bradshaw called a “very talented player.”

“I was very pleased with the team’s effort tonight. After a scouting report was done on New Bern, the coaching staff decided to mark Lily the entire game,” Bradshaw emailed. “Tate Misback and Abigail Jackson took on the task of keeping Lily out of the box and not giving her space to get a shot off. Both of these girls were fantastic along with Mary Abigail Lewin who directed our back line and stopped offensive opportunities from occurring. Our defense gave us opportunities to counter-attack on the offensive side of the ball.”

The Cyclones will face Rosewood on Friday at The Brittany at J. Burt Gillette Athletic Complex.
