JUNIOR VARSITY: Cyclones finish first in conference

Community Christian finished off a perfect boys basketball regular season with a 51-17 romp over Trinity Christian in the Cyclones’ final home game Tuesday evening at Williamson Gym on the ENCSD campus.

The Cyclones will take a 19-0 mark into the Mid-Atlantic Christian Athletic Association’s 2-A South Region tournament, which starts Friday at New Bern Christian.

Evan Gattis poured in 21 points to go with three assists to spark the Cyclones while Jack Beamon posted 10 points and three rebounds. Tyler Spivey added seven points.

CCS takes top seed into playoffs

Community Christian will also take the top seed into the MACAA South Region postseason after the Cyclones dispatched Trinity Christian 24-13 on Tuesday at Williamson Gym.

That left CCS 11-6 overall and 9-1 in region games. The Cyclones will await the winner between No. 5 Trinity Christian and No. 4 Faith Christian of Goldsboro in the second round of the tourney at New Bern Christian on Friday.

After falling behind 10-3 in the first quarter, CCS head coach Carl Bradshaw made some defensive adjustments and the Cyclones outscored Trinity 21-3 the rest of the way.

Autumn Bradshaw set the scoring pace for CCS with 11 points to go with three steals while Claire Carter came up with eight rebounds and five points. Mary Abigail Lewin added six points.
