The Community Christian School girls basketball team overcame a slow start in a 26-11 win over visiting North Carolina Christian Athletic Association 2-A North Region foe Gramercy Christian on Friday at Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf.
The Cyclones, who improved to 3-4 overall and 3-0 in conference play, struggled to get going early in the first half after four weeks off, but finished strong, holding the Warriors to just three points in the second half.
“Although they were a little off their game, they continued to run our offensive sets, and I was very proud of their effort,” said CCS head coach Carl Bradshaw.
Ellie Gay led the Cyclones with eight points, six of which game in the fourth quarter. Leah Jones, making her first start of the season, notched seven points and five rebounds.
“I was proud of both of these girls for stepping up and really contributing to our team’s success tonight,” Bradshaw said.
The Cyclones hosted Christ Covenant Tuesday at ENCSD.
