JACKSONVILLE — The Community Christian School volleyball team put up a strong finish in its state tournament Saturday, winning a pair of games and finishing as the state runner up with an eventual 2-0 loss to top-seeded Jacksonville Christian.
In the championship game against the Conquerors, the third-seeded Cyclones lost the two sets 25-18 and 25-16. Claire Carter posted two kills and six service points, Mary Abigail Lewin landed an ace and Autumn Bradshaw notched three service points and two assists.
Community Christian started its day with a 25-14, 25-11 victory over sixth-seeded Faith Christian Academy. Carter tallied two kills and landed an ace on eight service points, while Bradshaw tallied two kills and six assists, Ellie Gay dropped in a pair of aces on eight service points, Lewin tallied an ace on five service points and Tate Misback notched 10 service points.
To reach the championship game, the Cyclones avenged a 2-0 regular season loss to second-seeded New Bern Christian with a 25-13, 25-19 win. Gay posted three kills, an ace and five service points, Misback landed two aces on 13 service points and Bradshaw posted two aces, four service points, a kill and five assists.
Lewin, Misback, Gay, Bradshaw and Brooke Daniel led the defensive effort to propel Community Christian to the title game.
